A card-room chain filed nearly a third of 2026's closure notices

Since April, one employer has filed more closure notices with the state than any other: Maverick Washington LLC, which runs card rooms from Silverdale to Pasco. Here is what its 13 notices report, how much of this year's closure record they make up, and what they say about the company's bankruptcy.

Figures in this piece come from the public records as they stood on October 23, 2026. Later filings and wage releases will change them.

Thirteen card rooms in four filings

Maverick Washington filed its first notice on April 21, for the Silver Dollar SeaTac Casino and 65 workers. Two more followed on May 29, for its Crazy Moose Mountlake and Silver Dollar Mill Creek casinos, with 123 workers between them. On August 31 it filed for the Riverside and Great American casinos in Tukwila, with 238 workers. Then on September 28 it filed eight at once, covering 850 workers in Everett, Lakewood, Silverdale, Yakima, Kennewick and Pasco.

Together the 13 notices report 1,276 workers at sites in seven counties: King, Snohomish, Pierce, Kitsap, Yakima, Benton and Franklin. Pierce has the most, with three card rooms in Lakewood and 252 workers. The largest single notice is for All Star Casino in Silverdale, at 159 workers.

The closing dates run from June 30 for the Silver Dollar SeaTac Casino to November 30 for all eight sites in the September filing. The two Tukwila card rooms are listed for November 1.

Nearly a third of this year's closures

ESD records each notice as either a layoff or a closure. From January through October 23, 2026, the state received 44 closure notices covering 4,210 workers. Maverick's 13 notices are 30% of them, and its 1,276 workers are 30% of the workers. No other employer filed more than three closure notices this year, and the largest single closure outside Maverick is an Amazon site with 401 workers.

Across every kind of notice the share is smaller. The year's 129 filings report 27,943 workers, many of them from the fall harvest layoffs covered in our September analysis, and Maverick's notices account for about 5% of that total.

Card rooms have been rare in the record until now. Before April, the archive held two closure notices from employers with "casino" in their name, both filed in 2015 and both in King County. Some card rooms may have filed under a corporate name that does not say casino, so two is the least the archive could hold.

What the notices say about the bankruptcy

The eight September notices use the same letter. Each says the entire site will close, and that the closing is not the result of moving the work elsewhere or contracting it out.

Each also says Maverick Washington is currently subject to a bankruptcy proceeding, and that a new owner or operator could take over the site as part of it. If that happens, the notices say, the closure may not occur or could be delayed, and the company will send the state updated information.

Seven of the eight September notices also say some of the site's employees are represented by Teamsters Local 117.

How to follow what happens next

A WARN notice records a plan. It does not show whether a card room actually closed, whether a new operator kept it open, or whether workers were hired back under new ownership. For the eight September sites, that may not be known until the end of November.

When ESD revises a notice, the record here is updated to match, and a notice the state withdraws from its list drops out of our totals. If a new operator takes over any of these sites and Maverick updates its filings, the counts in this piece will change with them.

Each of the 13 notices has its own page on this site, with the filing date, closing date and worker count as ESD reported them.
